As the Corporate Cricket League enters the quarterfinal stage, the competition has stiffened. Last night people witnessed another interesting and tight match that was played between HBians and Green House. HBians won the match by 37 runs.
HBians started well with their top four contributing well with the bat. But once again the highlight of the innings came in towards the later part when Jignesh Patil smashed 42 off just 17 balls hitting some breathtaking shots and some big sixes, 4 in all to be precise. This effort rocketed HBians to a winning total of 123 runs.
When Green House came on to bat, they didn’t just give it away, it was a good fight back requiring more than 7 runs per over. Kelan Anandjiwala was the prime of the innings who scored a swift 37 off 28 balls taking Green House close enough to smell the whiff of victory.
But HBians pulled the strings back on time restricting Green House for just 85 and winning the first quarterfinal by 37 runs.
Jignesh Patil was given the man of the match for his brilliant performance with both bat and ball.
In the second match of the evening Idea Indians recorded another comfortable victory against HDFC Bank, they won the match by 67 runs.
As it has been the case in all the matches, the team batting first has won the match and the same tradition was followed here in the second quarterfinal. Idea Indians elected to bat first and gave a healthy target of 121. It was a good overall batting performance with Amit Singh being the highest scorer getting 43 off just 29 balls hitting 1 six and 6 boundaries. Vikas Sharma and Nirav Shah also contributed with the bat making 23 and 21 respectively.
HDFC Bank started their innings rather cautiously trying to have a steady start and keeping wickets in hand. But chasing again proved difficult under the lights. Once the opening stand was broken, they kept losing wickets on regular intervals, with no real partnerships building. HDFC got all out for a small total of 53 runs in 11 overs.
Amit Singh was given the man of the match for making 43 runs and taking 3 wickets in just 2 overs and giving away only 5 runs.
